Let’s Recollect

Answer the following questions after watching the movie:

A. Who is Coco?

Coco is a warm-hearted, kind, and supportive person, who is also Miguel’s great grandmother in the movie Coco.

B. What is the Land of the Dead? Do you think such a place exists? How do you think it would be?

The Land of the Dead is an afterlife land, which is the final destination for the spirits of the deceased.

Note: For the second and third part of the question, you can expect creative answers from the students, according to their imagination.

C. What wrong deeds did Miguel do at the beginning of the movie? Have you done something that your family did not want you to do?

Miguel’s wrong deeds at the beginning of the movie are:
– He practices music in secret even though his family does not like it.
– He runs away from his family after they break his guitar
– He steals Ernesto de la Cruz’s guitar

For the second part of the question, ask students to be open in their answers. After checking their answers, if it is a mistake, talk to students and help them understand why it’s a mistake and instruct them to not repeat similar actions.

D. What good deeds did Miguel do throughout the movie?

Some of Miguel’s good deeds are:
– He agrees to help Hector cross over.
– He helps Ernesto’s team practice.
– His actions help Hector and Mama Imelda reunite.
– He works hard despite his family’s conditions to help Mama Coco remember her papa, Hector.

Apart from these deeds, you can encourage children to even write the smaller details that they remember from the movie.

GK Challenge

A list of various places in the world is given below. Match them correctly with their respective sobriquets:

Think & Write

Write an excerpt about your family. Make sure you don’t merely inform who your family members are and what they do, but describe what happens in your family in a more detailed way. Use the help of the pointers given below for writing this essay.

Sometimes, students fail to relish the relationship they share with their family and friends. This exercise is meant to give a chance to students to reflect on their members, the times they’ve spent with them, and what their family means to them. Instruct kids to not just use the prompts given in the book, but to also come up with new prompts of their own, and write their essays based on that.

In their responses, check for good language, and check if they have thought through the prompts given and come up with new ones. Give them a round of applause if they have captured the way they felt during these experiences in their writing.

Festivals around the world

In this exercise, we aim to impart knowledge about different fascinating festivals around the world. Read through the festivals mentioned with the students and let them absorb the different cultural practices of different countries around the world. You can engage them further by asking them what they’d want to dress up as for a festival like Halloween. Further, build conversation by asking them if they know of any such interesting festival.

You can also engage them by asking the following questions:
– What is your favourite festival among the ones you celebrate?
– If you could pick one festival to celebrate from the list you just read, which one would you pick and why?

Tell them that festivals are way for us to bond as a community and have fun!

Activity Corner

Family Scrapbook

This is an interesting activity to deepen the bond children share with their families. Ask them to maintain a separate book where they stick pictures or draw their family members, and write about them. Instruct them to be as creative as possible with the book. Instead of just mentioning their family member’s details, you can encourage them to mention the times they enjoyed with them, one thing that makes them thankful to this person, and many more such details! This doesn’t have to be a one-time activity, but an ongoing activity where they keep adding details as time progresses.
